Suggestions for use: Use this pro-forma assessment grid to record individual pupils' knowledge of letter names and sounds.
Begin by checking grapheme-phoneme knowledge (show the letter and ask them to make the sound) - if the pupil struggles, then check phoneme-grapheme knowledge (you make the sound and ask them to identify the letter/s from a selection).
NB: It is also important to ensure that letter names are known as well as letter sounds, so assessment and records of this should also be carried out trhoughout the infant years.
