Going beyond the confinement of a textbook by bringing MINECRAFT into your classroom. Your students will learn many social skills with the freedom to think outside the box; the only limit there is with Minecraft is what you can think of doing.
Using blocks, students are empowered to create their own imaginary dream world. As a teacher, you will be amazed in seeing the world created through a child’s eye. The student’s eyes will light up when they know you have seen the spirit of their creativity. Students automatically take ownership for their work becoming overly involved and eager to explain the concepts behind their world.
Minecraft can link to many subjects, it is up to you how you want to creatively incorporate it. Everyone starts with a blank slate but are provided with blocks. Younger students will learn volume; in how many blocks will make one bigger block. Some pupils will become passionate about their creative artistic constructions that they will produce a storyboard to interact with Minecraft.
Let pupils be free thinkers and see what ideas they can bring to the world we know so much about.

This resource should enable a child to:
- give and take turns in speaking and experience a classroom environment in which tolerance for the views of others is fostered
- initiate conversations and respond to the initiatives of others in talking about experiences and activities
- make lists of local expressions and words
- practise the common social functions in the everyday context of class and school and through improvisational drama
Suggestions for use: Use this blank slate as a way of allowing your students to become free thinkers. Allow them to use the building blocks to create a world where their story will happen with characters that will boost their imagination skills and childlike adventures. Once students have their Minecraft world build, next stage is to allow students to share their worlds with each other along with their future ideas. Once shared, they need to keep their worlds safe by introducing their world in their creative story writing exercise before it vanishes from memory forever.

A really nice video produced by a student about the "Boy in the Striped Pyjamas". The student approach to drawings, illustrations and voice over will connect with your pupils mind-set in explaining this heart-warning story. The student cleverly depicts the themes, plot, quotes, characters, and symbolism using the way in which it appears to him.

A simple conversation began on twitter whereby a truly caring and compassionate teacher sought for techniques and strategies to help a pupils handwriting ability. Lehinch National School recommended this great find which goes back to basics. Basics are not basics for all children and some need more help at grasping the basics before slipping through the system. With dedicated practice and perseverance, the response to intervention (RtI) techniques which include letter size differentiation, raised line paper, using stickers to ensure spacing between words, direct instruction on case sensitivity, using multi sensory by writing in sand/shaving foam/paint, handwriting without tears app, handwriting practice worksheets and letter rehearsals.

Suggestions for use: As the twitter conversation progressed, a need was highlighted. Practice of handwriting cannot be left up to the English teacher alone. In this case, the English teacher allowed the pupil to sit their exams using an iPad so that assessment was accurately depicting the pupils ability. Secondly, the teacher emailed all the corresponding teachers who work with the pupil to gather ideas and strategies collectively. The form teacher had an essential role as the form teacher checks in with the student daily on a 10 minute basis. Ultimately, for handwriting to improve, everyone in the pupils educational environment needs to sing off the same hymn sheet and become advocates for the pupil to become persistent with the challenge they are facing.
Directly instruct students to be aware of using case sensitives.
Practice writing letters using guided worksheets. Try using different size lined paper or coloured paper. Practice writing letters in a multi-sensory environment to relieve the monotonous factor.

Suggestions for use: Use to teach and reinforce the technique and concept of using similes. Cut up the sentences of the last verse and have children work in pairs to put the sentences in the correct order. This assesses their ability to identify words that rhyme. Alternatively, delete the second part of the the simile in each verse and have children compose their own replacement similes.
